Freund Container always attempts to provide our customer’s orders with the individualized attention they need. From individual items to truckload quntities, we use over 100 different freight carriers to customize the delivery of each order reliable yet cost efficient carriers.
Because of our extensive line of products, we are not always able to ship using the same freight carrier. To help vizualize this we will show two examples. Order #1 (see below) is an example of two separate items, which have the same weight but will ship via different carriers. Order # 2 (see below) shows an example of the same size package, but due to the difference in the individual products weight, the shipping & handling costs are almost three times more expensive.
Order # 1:
Two of our 55-gallon Drums and two cases of our Decorative Vials each cost $200, each have the same weight, and both need to be shipped to New York City. In this example FedEx will not be able to ship these drums because they do not fit into their acceptable range of size/weight. At that point, we find the most competitive freightliner price (between $150-$200) and deliver the product. On the other hand, the two cases of Decorative Vials ship meet the acceptable size/weight guidelines and therefore ship at a lower cost.
Same Weight + Different Size = Different Carrier
Order # 2:
Whether you purchase 200 of our 4 ounce
plastic jars or 200 hundred of our 4 ounce
glass jars both will be packed in the same type of box (depending on the type of glass we may pack the product into a larger box with peanuts to help reduce breakage of the product during transit). In this case, the shipping weight of the glass jars is twice as much as the plastic jars resulting in shipping that are 3 times more expensive.
Different Shipping Weight + Same Size Jars + Same Quantity + Same Carrier = Different Price
These are just two examples of why we prefer not to calculate actual shipping & handling charges at time of order placement. We can’t always base shipping & handling on the price of the product, weight of the product, or dimension of the package. In addition, each freight carrier does not equally measure each one of the above mentioned parameters and as a result calculating accurate shipping & handling costs prior to product shipment becomes inaccurate.
