Types of Glass: Soda Lime Glass is typically used for drinking glasses, tableware, bottles, jars and windowpanes. Glass is comprised of silica, calcium and soda. Borosilicate Glass is used for lab equipment, cookware and glassware. Low expansion coefficient allows the glass to resist breakage due to temperature changes.
FAQ's About Glass: Sterile? If an item is sterile it will be marked in the description. Otherwise you should clean the containers before use. Heated? Glass can be heated up to 932°F (500°C) but are not suitable for use in an oven. It must never be heated faster than 65°F per minute. Hot Fillable? Glass containers may be hot filled. Avoid glass cracking by placing containers in hot water bath and slowly increase the water temperature (no more than 65°F per minute) until they reach the same temp as your contents. FDA Approved? With the correct preparation (sterilization, etc.), glass containers meet FDA requirements. Light Sensitive? Colored glass reduces UV light penetration 70% versus clear glass.
